Amphora 31 represents a "Nile Mud Amphora", named for its distinctive brownish-red fabric is known to have originated from the Nile Valley based on excavations at Berenice and is commonly dated to the 5th to 7th century CE (Riley 1979: 224-225). The jar has a biconical body; a simple vertical rim with slight internal thickening; a tall vertical neck, and uneven twisted handles smoothed into the rim but crudely attached to the body; it is 35-40% restored (Barako 2008: 461).
