c. 1050-c. 300 BCE
Cypro-Geometric, Cypro-Archaic, Cypro-Classical
This amphora is classified under "Plain White V" ware and is dated to the Cypro-Archaic II period (Gjerstad et al. 1935: pl. 133:3; Gjerstad et al. 1948: 88, fig. 56; 1960: 114, fig. 6.7). Until microfossils from the northern coastal Levant can be analyzed, the most that can be said is that it was produced north of Tripoli (Barako 2008: 444).
The jar has a bulbous lower body and a pinched upper body with a sloping hole mouth rim set off from the shoulder by the flange. The shoulder is short and straight with overhanging flange, and small circular handles with crudely applied clay around points of attachment; it is 20-25% restored (Barako 2008: 444).
