Israel/Central Coastal Plain
Iron Age I
—
The clay is non-carbonatic, rich in iron and silty (~30%), porous, dark brown to red in PPL with some iron accumulations and iron ooids (50-100µm). The silt contains mostly well-sorted angular quartz, fragments of Kurkar and limestone, chert and feldspars. The a-plastic components consist of moderately sorted sub-angular quartz (over 30%, 50-200µm); kurkar fragments; lime stone and tuffs. Also visible are spherical terra rossa bowls with silty quartz inclusions (~3% some up to 200µm and some ~500µm), and shell fragments.
