The matrix is a ferruginous,
slightly calcareous clay, containing silt-size
quartz. The dominant temper is quartz sand, with wellrounded
to sub-angular grains, partially oriented parallel
to the surface of the vessel. Plagioclase, feldspar,
hornblende and chert are accessory components
present in the temper; occasionally coarse carbonate
occurs. Temper constitutes 5–15% of the total volume
of the sherd. The firing temperature differs from about
650°C for the dark samples, possibly fired in a reducing
atmosphere, to 750–800°C and higher for the vitrified
samples (see Table 5.13) and was estimated according
