Description

Calcareous and ferruginous clay matrix, optically slightly active. 14% inclusions, low porosity. Fine carbonates/micrite are predominant, accompanied by quartz (rounded), schists, rare K-feldspars, metamorphic rock fragments, sporadic volcanic rock fragments, hornblende, muscovite and clinopyroxene. This is potentially a natural mixture of Nile mud with calcareous sediments corresponding to "Egyptian Marl Clay", macroscopically relating to so-called Qena Ware.
