Kaolinitic and slightly ferruginous clay matrix with moderate optical activity. 17% inclusions, low porosity. Significant are quartz and K-feldspar inclusions, while iron ore/hematite fragments can be rated as distinguishing features. Minor chert, hornblende, plagioclase and micas can be detected. The abundance of iron ore/hematite fragments point towards an origin from the area north and northeast of modern Aswan. This is a secondary clay, being naturally mixed with minor amounts of Nile sediment.
