The matrix is ferruginous with kaolinitic components. The clay matrix exhibits a high optical activity. 27% inclusions, low porosity. Most diagnostic are large elongated and sub-rounded shale fragments (reddish), accompanied by kaolinitic clay pellets (yellowish colour). Accessories include quartz, K-feldspars, plagioclase and volcanic rock fragments (basalt), hornblende and chert. This petrofabric shows associations to kaolinitic clays (compare the preserved kaolinitic clay pellets) possibly deriving from shale/Nubian sand stone formations, but testifies in addition to a contribution of Nile sediments (due to the presence of hornblende and volcanics).
