General Information
Jerash Late Roman Red Slip was a fine, wheel-thrown table ware. The assemblage is composed entirely of plates and bowls, whose shapes were clearly inspired by African Red Slip ware. Jerash Late Roman Red Slip ware may be identified as a forerunner of the well known Jerash Bowls. Further information about this peculiar ware can be found in Uscatescu 2001.
The ware colour ranging from orange to orange red/reddish (Muns. 5YR 6/4, 7/4; 2.5YR 7/3; 10R 7/1). The fabric is quite fine and granular with scattered lime inclusions. Sometimes a dark grey core is shown. Wheel made. The impressed decoration is the distinctive trait of this type of pottery.
