General Information
Description
A37 Later Bassit Amphorae fabric. C.f . M32.1; O33.3 This is an oxidised red amphora fabric. It is hard with a very irregular fracture ad very coarse feel. It has inclusions of common sub angular basalt at 1 mm and common sub angular lime at 1-2mm, occasional red stone.
The date distribution implies production commencing in the early 3rd century and a presence into the sixth century. Forms include early fifth century LRA1 copies. Also of note is the group of (late 2nd?-3rd c. CE) ‘transport dolia’ in this fabric.
