General InformationEgyptian Marl Thin-Walled Ware, one of two thin-walled wares from the Roman period, is characterized by the use of a marl fabric and was probably derived from Aswan-based manufacturies (Herbert and Berlin 2003, 30). Potters used this ware to manufacture a series of small, exceptionally thin-walled beakers and cups. At Coptos, vessels of this ware first appear in the 1st century CE in one of the earliest Roman ceramic assemblages.
Description
Egyptian Marl Thin-Walled Ware was made from a marl fabric, giving it a pink or white color. A few carry barbotine decoration, but most vessels are plain.
