Medium-sized with shoulders that are usually only slightly distinguished (much narrower than the Early Dynastic specimens) and a rounded base. The distinctive
element of this type of jar is a more or less deep groove, a so-called collar, with rounded or sharp edges, situated a few centimetres below the rim. The rim and neck of these jars were smoothed (turning marks are visible), and the surface at the
shoulders and below is irregular (wavy form). Vertical and horizontal grooves and fingerprints are clearly visible, showing that the potter probably formed the vessels by hollowing and pin-ching.
