Tonghini and Vanni-Desideri (2001: 711) tentatively interpret this as a residual Byzantine period form, while noting that it seems to be fairly common in the 12th century assemblage. The dating and ware attribution favored here must also be considered tentative until final analysis and publication of the ceramics from al-Wu'ayra is completed.
