Early Cypriot I-II
Within a pit sealed by late...
RP I–II earlug jar. Round mouth with flaring rim, thinning to a rounded end, chipped and damaged around 80% of mouth. Originally with two lugs at shoulder but these are now too damaged to be certain of shape, or whether pierced. Very thick lower walls and base, body bulbous on one side. Base flat with flanged sides. Decorated with thick, untidily executed incised lines. Horizontal band at neck mid point and horizontal lines at shoulder to handle bases. Sets of vertical solid and dashed lines around neck and shoulder, with occasional vertical lines of punctures. Encrusted on one side. Medium thick red slip with a medium lustre (2.5YR 4/8–5/8). One area of black mottling on lower body. Fabric is quite soft (7.5YR 6/4) yellowish-brown with medium–many small and medium (and occasional large) inclusions. These comprise mainly sub-angular to rounded black and brown with a few quartz/lime and red stones. Area of grey core visible in one handle break.
