The Humeitepe is the northernmost area of the ancient polis of Miletos, hosting the temple of Demeter, insluae with houses, a Roman bath and a harbour at the eastern bay that provided a link between the Maiandros River and the Aegean Sea. From 2014–2015 an intensive pedestrian survey was carried out by Christof Berns, Barbora Weissova and Sabine Huy (University of Bochum, later University of Hamburg) supported by students of the universities of Bochum and Hamburg. The Humeitepe covers around 12 ha. Over 90,000 ceramic pieces were counted in the field, of which nearly 20,000 diagnostic fragments were analysed in detail (22%). The chronology of the findings strechtes from the 7th century BCE to the 15th century CE.
