Horbat Rodem is located on the edge of the step between the Jezreel and the Beth She'an valleys. This is a basaltic area, on which rise three small artificial mounds. Remains of basalt buildings and signs of stone quarrying can be seen on the mounds. Between the western and eastern mound a broken limestone sarcophagus was found.
On the eastern site, recently excavated by Karen Covello-Baran and Dina Avshalom-Gorney, two layers have been revealed: Stratum I, dating to the Late Roman–early Byzantine periods, and Stratum II, dating to the Late Hellenistic–Early Roman periods.
