Tell el-Burak lies on the Mediterranean coast of southern Lebanon, approximately 9 km south of Sidon. Excavations begun in 2001 by a Lebanese-German collaboration have revealed distinct phases of use. In the Middle Bronze Age, a monumental mud-brick palace stood on an artificially raised mound; Room 10 preserves painted plaster on its walls and floor.

The later Phoenician agricultural settlement is assigned by the excavation project to the last quarter of the eighth through the middle of the fourth century BCE. Its remains include domestic architecture and a plastered wine-production installation at the southern foot of the tell. The Middle Bronze Age and later Mamluk-Ottoman material are treated in the 2019 site volume; these separate phases should not be read as evidence of continuous occupation.
