Description

The clay is non calcareous, dark reddish brown with a few iron rich concretions. There are areas of non-homogenized calcareous clays with few calcareous inclusions. There is ca. 40% coarse to fine silt composed mainly of quartz and mica with some amphibole and pyroxene. The main inclusion is quartz which is moderately sorted and sub angular (10–12% from 75μm to 27μm). High firing temperature is evident from the dark colour of the clay and the presence of a reaction rim around a few of the voids
