Israel/Northern Coastal Plain
Middle Bronze Age II
Transport/Storage
The fabric is calcareous, optically active, porous, light brown in plain polarized light with some iron oxides and some silt (~5%). The silt contains mostly well-sorted angular quartz and eroded calcareous grains. Occasional pyroxenes were also observed. The a-plastic components consist of a variety of poorly sorted sub-rounded calcareous components (~30% up to 5mm): lime stone, chalk ; and different marine microfossils such as foraminifera, and different kinds of algae. Poorly sorted angular dolomite rock and chert as well as a few spherical terra rossa balls were seen (up to 5 mm); quartz is rare in this fabric although several vessels had some well sorted angular sand (up to 10%, 30–50 µm).
