calcareous, compact, and speckled birefringent matrix. It contains some iron oxide stains, a few discrete foraminifera, and up to 5% of silt-sized quartz grains. The identified foraminifera are from the Paleogene. Sand-sized non-plastic components are scarce and contain calcrete fragments.
