Ferruginous clay matrix with high optical activity. 20% inclusions, moderate porosity. This thin-section is defined by dominant quartz and feldspar (mainly plagioclase) inclusions, volcanic rock fragments of basaltic composition and amphibole/hornblende. Most notable is the presence of well-rounded quartz ("desert sand") and its diagnostic feature is the presence of calcareous inclusions/micrite. This is a natural clay mixture, originating from the Nile valley.
