Egypt/Upper Egypt
Hellenistic/Ptolemaic
Transport/Storage
Slightly ferruginous and shaley clay matrix, slighly optically active. 7% inclusions, moderate porosity. Most diagnostic are large and variegated (reddish to greenish) shale fragments, accompanied by Nubian sandstone fragments. Quartz, siltstone, chert and K-feldspars, as well as hornblende and ferromagnesian minerals attested in lower quantities. The combination of variegated shales and Nubian sandstone is primarily attested in the oases of the Wesstern Desert of Egypt. Due to comparative material, an origin from Dakhla oasis can be supposed.
