The matrix is ferruginous to slightly kaolinitic with a moderate optical activity. 15% inclusions, low porosity. Main inclusions comprise quartz (can be rounded), K-feldspars, sporadic shale fragments (reddish), while the fine fraction is constituted by plagioclase, clinopyroxenes, hornblende, few muscovite micas and volcanic rock fragments (basalt). This is a secondary kaolinitic clay, possibly mined from an area adjacent to the Nile river stream as indicated by the fine fraction that resembles the composition of Nile sediments.
