Sugar pot cone
The edge of a kiln for the production of sugar cone vessels, which were used to manufacture sugar, was found in a salvage excavation on the edge of the parking lot for the National Park at Banias. Quantities of sugar molds were recovered in the excavation. The vessels and kiln date to the Mamluk era. Evidence for Mamluk occupation has been found across the site, including a possibly domestic structure immediately in front of the large cave of the former Sanctuary of Pan and ceramic and architectural remains in the excavation zone across the street, which had been the city center of Caesarea Paneas in earlier times. The kiln is the first evidence of industrial activity dating to the Mamluk period found at the site.
