Early Islamic - Umayyad/Abbasid/Fatimid
General Information
These vessels include mainly bowls but also small jugs. They are glazed either with alkaline or with lead glaze. Most are rather poorly made. The clay is buff with many white and brown grits. Most are missing slip under glaze. Some are glazed on all sides, including the base. Most of the vessels are painted in yellow, green and brown in shape of dots, spots and lines. The deep hemispheric or with short ledge rim are dated to the duration of the Abbasid and Fatimid periods, while shallow bowls with long ledge rim, appear in strata dated to the Fatimid period.
