Ptolemaic-Roman White Slipped Nile Silt Common ware
Egypt/Upper Egypt
3rd century BCE - 3rd century CE
Hellenistic/Ptolemaic, Roman
General Information
This group mainly includes pitchers and pots that have a thick dull, white slip. Similar to the White Slip Nile Silt ware, the slip of some pieces appears slightly yellowish or greenish. This group already appears in Syene in the Ptolemaic and Roman period but only in very small quantities.
Wares of this group were manufactured from a variety of clay pastes of Nile silt. A small percentage of vessels exhibits decoration that was exclusively painted and features simple bands in the rim area.
