General Information
Description
A gritty (sandy), but often thin, fabric on Cyprus in the Iron Age is plain kitchen ware (PKW), so called because vessels often appear burnt, having been possibly used for cooking. The sand may have helped to relieve thermal stress. This ware is generally dark red to brown to black. Note that some PKW is painted with black paint, making for White Painted Kitchen ware (see Cypriot White Painted [Iron Age]).
