Delta Ptolemaic Orange ware
Egypt/Delta/Lower Egypt
200 BCE
Hellenistic/Ptolemaic
General InformationThis ware was identified at Tell Timai. Three vessels in the ware were found as part of a large primary floor deposit dating to around 200 BCE.
Description
Loosely packed Nile silt (possibly mixed with marl clay?), relatively clean with no organic mater visible. Common very small flat flakes of limestone are evenly distributed throughout the matrix. Some scattered mica is visible in section and one surfaces. The clay body is relatively soft, resulting in abraded and rounded edges of breaks. All the surfaces are covered with a thick red slip that is glossy and has a greasy texture.
