Early Islamic - Umayyad/Abbasid
General Information
This is a fine sandy ware used to make common household vessels such as jugs, platters, basins, and lanterns. The color varies from light orange to beige/brown depending of the firing conditions. The surface is smoothed, and there are inclusions of middle sized grey grits (microfossils) and some grains of lime. The exterior color may be clearer or darker than the core, depending on the firing. Some vessels carry traces of red painted decoration.
