Amman Grey 2
Jordan/Central Highlands
10th to 9th century BCE
Iron Age IIA
General Information
The fabric-group "Amman grey 2" was established during the excavation of 2024 and 2025 at the citadell of Amman (ammap-project). It is probably closely related to the grey coarse ware identified by Michelle Daviau at Tall Jawa (Daviau 2020, 61 fig. 3.10,2-5).
The cross-section is grey to blackish-grey, containing white, whitish-buff, very light brown and grey mineral inclusions of different sizes. A characteristic, though not consistently present, feature of this fabric is the presence of thin brown margins flanking a darker core. Additionally, a brown to greyish-brown or greyish buff wash is often applied on the surface. The fabric is hard-fired and exhibits few or no visible voids.
No petrographic or further scientific analyses have been conducted to date.
