The matrix of two examined samples is ferruginous and highly foraminiferous, with silty dolomite and sporadic (less than 1%) silty quartz, some large naturally occurring calcite and limonitic ooliths, and no added temper. Silt composes 5-8 percent of the volume of the matrix, and is angular quartz of aeolian origin, lesser amounts of plagioclase and rare olivine and hornblende.
Sand size non plastics compose 9 to 15 percent of sherd's volume and are: crystalline limestone and biogenic chalk, sub-rounded and rounded, badly sorted 0.1-0.3 to 1-2 mm; rounded and oval pellets of ferruginous silty clay looking dark under the microscope. Light gray to almost black aureoles surrounding lens-looking or out-of-shape voids in the core of the sherd...
