This clay, which is characteristic of about 90% of the ceramics found at the sanctuary of Sīʿ, is a fairly compact dark red to orange-red in color, apparently made out of the basaltic derived clay local to the Hauran. Pottery made with this petro-fabric is characterized by basalt inclusions visible to the naked eye. This clay characterizes ceramics from the vicinity of the sanctuary dating from Iron Age through late Roman times. Iron Age and Hellenistic-period vessels are lighter orange in color, with a less compact consistency, and an abundance of vitreous blackvolcanic glass inclusions.
In Rohmer's 2020 publication of his Hauran survey (Hauran VI), this is "pâte A" (pp. 38-39).
