Excavation area H at Abila is siituated opposite of the city on the hilltop east of the Wadi Abil. Area H is a large Roman/Byzantine tomb field and the pottery kiln was situated amongst 3 abandoned large Roman tombs. The circular perimeter of the kiln measured 2.1 meters in diameter. A 15 cm thick layer of unfired/greenware pottery sherds were found on the floor of the kiln. These included handles and ribbed body sherds. The broken pottery sherds suggests a date early in the fourth century ACE.
Described in the sixth season of Tomb Excavation at Abila published in the Near Eastern Archaeological Bulletin by Robert Smith.
