Judith Marquet-Krause was born in Sejera (Ilaniyyah) in the Lower Galilee and died of tuberculosis in 1936. At the age of twenty-seven Baron de Rothschild appointed her to direct the archaeological team excavating the city of Ai. Marquet-Krause excavated Ai for three seasons between 1933 and 1935, and was able to prepare two preliminary reports before her early death.
