Personal Information

Ina Kehrberg[-Ostrasz] graduated with two Hons in Classical & Near Eastern Archaeology at the University of Sydney [USYD] where she completed her postgraduate research and thesis on Cypriot ceramics (see published refs). She has worked for over 35 years in Jordan, beginning with the 1975-1978 USYD excavations at Teleilat Ghassul [Dir. Prof. J.B.Hennessy]. In January 1983 she became a permanent member of the Australian Team of the International Jerash Archaeological Project, Phase I [JAP I], sponsored by the Dept of Antiquities of Jordan under the aegis of HRH Prince Hassan. After cessation of JAP I, she became the archaeologist–ceramicist of the new permanent Jerash Hippodrome Restoration Project 1984-1996 [JAP Phase II], directed by the architect of the JAP I Polish team, the late Dr. Antoni Ostrasz. She obtained a Harvard/Levy-White Grant to prepare Antoni’s manuscript “The Gerasa Hippodrome. A Provincial Roman Circus”, including her studies on archaeological data, for posthumous publication by Archaeopress in 2020 (see published refs). From 1997 on, she collaborated with several archaeological projects at Jarash, notably as ceramicist for the permanent IFAPO Upper Zeus Temple Complex Project 1996-2000 [directed by then IFAPO-Amman Dir. J-P Braun]. CBRL-Amman sponsored her last field research, the “Jarash City Walls Project: Excavations 2001-2003” [Dir. I.K-O, co-Dir. J.Manley; assoc-Dir. D. Kennedy/aerial photographs]; she published the final JCWP report in 2019 (see published refs).She returned home to Sydney in 2004 wher she became Hon. Research Fellow at USYD and in 2019 Hon. Lecturer at ANU/Canberra. She has been co-supervising several PhD theses and given Masterclasses on ceramics and other artefacts at both universities. She has published several books (see selection below) and over 50 articles on her archaeological research at Jarash and other sites in Jordan.
