Turkey/Marmara
Iron Age III
Trench F6 East (CUT)
NAA analysis shows that this fabric belongs to the chemical group Ul80 (Gürtekin-Demir et al. 2022, no. 10, Dask 29). Ul = unlocated. Groups Ul80, Ul81, Ul82, and Ul83 refer to groupings that could be formed but are sourced because they are not represented in the c. 12,500 NAA samples of the Bonn NAA database of the central and eastern Mediterranean. The patterns have so far occurred only at Daskyleion. This may indicate that they were produced at Daskyleion itself, or produced at another site and imported to Daskyleion. It is likely that one or more of these element groups represent Daskyleion's local ceramic production. This applies in particular to Ul80, which occurs most frequently among the Lydian-type pottery found at the site. However, until unequivocal reference samples such as kiln wasters or vessels from the original fill of a potter's kiln are found, this must remain a hypothesis (Gurtekin-Demir et al. 2022, p. 8).
