The clay is iron rich and somewhat micaceous with a few iron concretions. There is 30% silt composed of mainly quartz, but feldspars, micas (mainly biotite) and pyroxene are also present. The inclusions are 20% subangular, well sorted fine sand, mainly quartz and calcareous rock fragments.
